The Connection: Penstruck Design

Hey there! Welcome to the first blog post in our blog series called, The Connection. Each week we highlight a vendor on our Instagram page. But listen, those captions are tiny and sometimes, our vendor friends have A LOT more to say. So, we sit down and ask them five of our favorite questions and let them do what they do best-make the magic happen.

So, grab a cup of your favorite coffee and join us on this voyage where ink and imagination collide in the most creative ways. Penstruck Design is ready, armed with creativity, sass, and enough pop culture references to make your head spin. Let the wedding stationery extravaganza begin!

Tell us a bit about yourself and your business!

“I am the proud owner of Penstruck Design, where I combine my engineering background with a deep love for creativity. Starting with calligraphy and gradually delving into the world of wedding invitations, I discovered my true passion for letterpress printing. As the owner of a cherished 1907 Chandler & Price letterpress named Albert, I take great pride in personally printing my own letterpress invitations, infusing each piece with a unique charm and timeless elegance.

In addition to invitations, I specialize in creating various day-of stationery signage, including seating charts and welcome signs. Collaborating with couples is my true joy, as I am passionate about bringing their visions to life and creating stationery that truly reflects their unique love stories. With careful attention to detail, exceptional craftsmanship, and a personalized approach, I strive to provide a seamless experience for every client. At Penstruck Design, I am dedicated to crafting stationery that becomes a cherished part of the couple's wedding journey, capturing the beauty, joy, and individuality of their special day.”

A client meets you for the first time, how would they describe their interaction with you?

“Clients who meet me for the first time would likely describe their interaction with me as easy-going and seamless. I strive to create a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere, making it easy for clients to communicate their needs and preferences. I aim to provide a stress-free experience by offering comprehensive services as a one-stop shop for their invitation suite and day-of stationery. From the initial consultation to the final product, I work closely with clients, listening to their ideas and offering creative solutions. With my attention to detail and dedication to customer satisfaction, clients can expect a smooth and enjoyable collaboration, resulting in beautifully designed and coordinated wedding stationery.

What is the most empowering thing about the Penstruck Design owner?  As the Penstruck Design owner, I find empowerment in being my own boss and having the freedom to push my boundaries creatively. With a deep love and passion for letterpress printing, I can explore endless possibilities and there is no limit to what I can achieve.

Being in control of my own business allows me to take risks, think outside the box, and continuously innovate. I have the flexibility to experiment with design elements, techniques, and materials, ensuring that every piece of wedding stationery I create is a reflection of my unique vision and artistic expression.”

What is the most underrated wedding advice you want everyone to know?

“POSTAGE COSTS! One of the most underrated aspects of wedding planning is the cost of postage. Many couples are often taken aback when they realize how much postage can add up for their invitation suite. In 2020, it was 55 cents for a 1 oz letter, but starting in July 2023, it will increase to 66 cents. While it may not sound like a significant difference, it can quickly accumulate, especially when you're sending out over 100 invitations along with RSVP inserts. Additionally, couples are often surprised to discover the additional postage required for unique elements like wax seals, square envelopes, or heavier invitation suites. These factors can significantly impact your overall budget, so it's important to consider them early on and allocate an appropriate amount for postage expenses. By doing so, you can avoid any unexpected surprises and ensure a smooth mailing process for your wedding invitations.”

If you could have one fictional character as a client, who would it be and why?

“Belle from Beauty and the Beast would be an ideal fictional character to have as a client. With her love for books and her appreciation for beauty in all its forms, Belle embodies elegance, sophistication, and a deep passion for the arts. As a client, Belle would truly value the intricate details and craftsmanship of old-school printing techniques like letterpress, recognizing the timeless quality they bring to her wedding stationery.

Belle's connection with nature and her association with the iconic rose from Beauty and the Beast would serve as inspiration for a stunning floral theme in her wedding invitations. The combination of delicate floral patterns, vintage-inspired typography, and the touch of whimsy that Belle embodies would create an enchanting invitation suite that captures her unique personality and style. Collaborating with Belle as a client would be a magical experience, as we could bring her love for books, flowers, and the romance of the Beauty and the Beast story to life in every aspect of her wedding stationery.”
