Love in Lawrence: Shop Local

If you're anything like me, you appreciate shopping locally! It can be challenging when you can buy most things on Amazon for half the price. However, shopping local ensures authentic customer service, personalized experiences, and products that are made to last. If you're from Lawrence or visit regularly, you KNOW that the place to find cute and eclectic things is always on Mass Street. So, grab some 1900 Barker and let's explore some of my favorite stores!

The Dusty Bookshelf (708 Massachusetts St)

The Dusty Bookshelf is a used bookstore straight out of a book lover's dream. Best known for their fuzzy black cat (ask before petting) and extremely helpful sales associates. Stacks and stacks of books are at your fingertips; you can find everything from wedding planning books, marriage prep materials, romance novels, to DIY books galore. Proceed with caution; you may accidentally spend an entire afternoon here. Insider Tip: Be prepared to dig and definitely start a loyalty account.

Wonderfair (841 Massachusetts St)

The stationary store, print palace, women-owned oasis of local and regional zines. Need I say more? Hand-lettering your invites? They've got more pens than you can imagine. Wax seals? Check. Want to decorate with unique prints or wrap your gifts in whimsical and ethically sourced paper? They've got it.

Insider Tip: Yes, the bathroom is haunted; no, you cannot let Dave out (the cat); never restrain yourself at the sticker shelf.

J. Lynn Bridal (731 Massachusetts St)

A dedicated bridal shop offering a curated collection of wedding dresses, bridesmaid dresses, and accessories. There are so many places to get your dress, but there is truly only one J.Lynn. This bridal shop has plus-size dresses, massive rack sales, and some of the most patient associates. If you're looking for a dress (or pantsuit) that is uniquely you, look no further!

Lucky Dog Bakery (933 Massachusetts St)

A paw-some destination for couples looking to include their furry friends in the wedding celebration. This charming pet boutique offers a delightful array of handmade treats, stylish accessories, and adorable attire for your beloved pup. From dapper bowties to delectable dog-friendly cakes, Lucky Dog Bakery ensures your furry companion is not only present but steals the show on your special day. Shop here for unique and high-quality items that cater to both the taste buds and style preferences of your four-legged friend, making your wedding day truly unforgettable for every member of the family.

Love of Character (935 Massachusetts St)

Want to add a touch of whimsy and charm to your wedding festivities? For bridesmaid proposals that are as unique as your friendships, explore their amazing selection of curated gifts and personalized items. Elevate your bachelorette party with their playful and stylish decorations; they have Dolly Parton plates - I digress. They also create the most vibrant and creative balloon arrangements, making it the perfect spot to add a pop of fun to your bridal shower or bach party. For those seeking distinctive, Instagram-worthy details, this boutique is a must-visit! Plus, they always have great music on!

Antique Mall (830 Massachusetts St)

The Antique Mall is a treasure trove of timeless pieces, making it the destination for couples seeking vintage charm for their wedding. Discover unique decor elements, from antique furniture to retro photos, adding a touch of nostalgia to your special day. Whether you're hunting for distinctive centerpieces, classic wedding attire accessories, or pieces for a vintage photo booth, the Antique Mall is a haven for those who appreciate the beauty.

Insider Tip: Start in the back of the top floor; that way, you miss nothing. There are three floors, and it is a lot.

Arizona Trading Co (736 Massachusetts St)

Dive into a world of eclectic finds, from vintage dresses to quirky accessories, allowing you to express your individual style on your wedding day without breaking the bank. Embrace sustainability and creativity and let your style shine with a touch of vintage charm.

1900 Barker (816 Massachusetts St)

You didn't think we were shopping without coffee, did you? Meet ONYX coffee + housemade bites, envious of literally everyone. This place is normally packed and for a good reason! The place is light, airy, and one of the best places to catch your breath in the middle of your Mass Street adventures. Stop by for a treat and savor the perfect blend of artisanal pastries and expertly crafted ONYX coffee, creating a delicious pause in your day that's worth every sip and bite.

Jungle House (6 E 7th St)

Jungle House is an experience, and respects must be paid. Whether you're a seasoned plant parent or just beginning to cultivate your green thumb, Jungle House has an extensive selection of houseplants, succulents, and tropical gems. You might be thinking, why visit? The easier question would be why not? These experts have some of the best plant care advice and have helped my brides find sustainable options for plants while planning their wedding. Florals are in, but so is sustainability, making it easy to opt for all the greenery! They were able to help identify plants that are low maintenance and easily kept after the big day!

Lawrence Art Collective (646 Vermont)

The newest gem on this list! Explore curated collections of one-of-a-kind art pieces that reflect the diverse perspectives and styles of the talented creators in the community! This space houses all the local culture and the visionaries who shape it. Find distinctive gifts that speak volumes, whether it's a handmade piece for guests or a unique item that adds flair to your big day; this is such a great place to visit!

Are you tired yet? I'm exhausted and suddenly craving croissants. Thanks for checking out some of my favorite shops, and I hope you visit all the other great shops I didn't have time to mention. Mass Street has everything, and it is the best place to experience Lawrence. Please stop by Sylas & Maddy's for ice cream, Brown's Shoe for the best digs, and the Phoenix Gallery for all your accessories! Now... about that croissant.
